I got the idea to illustrate the Queen of Hearts after thinking about what absolute queens all the mums I know are, both as mothers and across life in general.
They juggle so much, with such love, and I never understood what an incredibly hard and often unseen role this is until I became a mother myself 6 years ago.
Each morning I wake up and muddle my way through motherhood, not sure if I'm making the right decisions, or choosing the best path, especially where my daughter's disability is concerned.
You'd think that one of the most important roles of my life would come with some sort of handbook, but most days I just put one foot in front of the other and hope for the best. And I'm sure I'm not the only mum to feel this way.
So with that in mind, this is my tribute to my own mother and all the mums out there putting one foot in front of the other to create the best lives they can for their children. Have a wonderful May and a very happy Mother's Day.
