I’ve turned into one of those annoyingly upbeat people that can’t stop smiling because guess what? Hubby and I are going to Japan tomorrow!
I’m SO excited. Funny story though – because we’re not the best planners in the world, we hadn’t considered that we might be expecting when we booked in this trip. The original idea was to ski our way around the north island, relax our tired muscles in onsens (Japan’s famous hot tubs), and indulge in ridiculous amounts of sashimi and saki along the way.
Which is hilarious because now that I’m pregnant I can’t:
- Ski
- Eat raw fish
- Use hot tubs
- Drink saki
Ha! Looks like this mama is going to be getting hella fit by snow shoeing everywhere and eating her weight in ramen instead. As far as holidays go, I guess that’s not a bad deal even if it’s not what we originally planned. 😉
Baby update
In other news, baby is getting bigger and if possible even more active than before. She loves to move! Of course, it’s usually at the most inconvenient times like 11pm every night when I’m trying to sleep. Or she’ll somersault about when the doctor’s trying to hear her heartbeat so they can’t get a proper read on her. If this is any indication of her personality, we’re going to have one feisty kid on our hands!
We’re at 25 weeks now and I’m still loving the whole pregnancy thing, largely because the second trimester has been so cruisy. Some fun new facts:
- I’ve developed a distinct waddle. Which is unfortunate because now I look like an overweight duck when I walk.
- We’ve been told that bubs can hear what’s happening outside the womb so I’ve taken to talking to her like she’s already been born. Which to an outsider, must look crazy. Combined with the waddle, this makes for an excellent first impression when meeting new people.
- My dreams have been out of this world. Anyone else experienced this during pregnancy? I’m talking super vivid, Alice-in-Wonderland-type wild storylines that I can remember in detail when I wake up the next morning. Fun, but also very strange!
On the nursery front, we’ve gotten as far as getting a pram, cot, and change table for our little lady. Sadly the rest of her room looks like a tornado hit it as we try to clear out years’ worth of clutter. Who knew two people could accumulate so much junk in one spare room? Sigh. I’m looking forward to the time when it’s finally clean and we can start working on painting and decorating. Baby steps guys, baby steps.
Last but not least, it’s the 14th today so Happy Valentine’s to you! Whether you’re single, in a couple or somewhere in between, I hope you get your fill of candy and lots of love from your peeps!
xx Steph
