DIY fails and some news!

DIY fails and life lately

This week I planned to share a project with you that was guaranteed to be awesome. It involved concrete, I was pumped about the concept and I even shot almost all of the steps because I was so sure it would come together without a hitch. All I was waiting for was the cement to dry before I could reveal the beautiful end result.

I waited for 5 days to make absolutely, completely sure that the concrete had dried properly.

Are you hanging out to see the finished product? Well then, without further ado let me present to you my stunning, never-to-be seen-elsewhere concrete photo holders.

Sigh.

There’s a good reason they’ve never been seen elsewhere. Because they don’t work! Or maybe I didn’t mix the concrete properly. Either way, they’re a flaky, crumbly mess and I was a stressed out, panicky mess because I didn’t have the time or energy to craft and shoot something new to share with you this week.

And I realise that’s a very ‘first world problem’ because I don’t have to post each week and a few days without a new project won’t result in mass devastation. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the last couple of years, it’s that good content is consistent and I hated the idea that one ruined project meant a whole week of silence on the blog.

Which brings me to my news! It was getting a bit ridiculous that I didn’t have the time or breathing space for even one project to fail. After all, that’s what DIY is all about – trying things out and seeing what works! I was also sick of spending practically every waking hour on my computer; it was was taking it’s toll on my health, home life and friendships.

So I resigned from my day job. Okay there was a bit more thought put into it than that, and I have some new opportunities in the works that make this financially possible, but for now let’s just say the idea of not having to work a full four days a week and then blog on top of that brings me SO MUCH relief.

Sadly, I this isn’t me quitting work entirely. While I’d love to say I’m able to earn a living off my blog full time, the benefits of sick leave, super and a steady pay check are too valuable to give up right now. But I’m planning to get a new job with fewer hours, so I’ll be working less, blogging more and hopefully making this space an uber exciting one for you to visit!

I’m pumped. I hope you guys are too. And as always, I’m super grateful that you’ve taken the time to read this and listen to my ramblings – it means the world to me that I have you to share my stories with!

xx Steph
